Product Description
Curcumin is the active ingredient in the spice turmeric, providing powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant functions that are the basis for current clinical trials as an anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory disease modulator. However, curcumin absorption by oral dose is low with the remaining active quickly excreted.
MicroActive® Curcumin SR is a water dispersible formulation containing dispersed micronized curcuminoids in a sustained-release matrix that improves the active’s absorption and residence time. Clinical studies dosing with MicroActive® Curcumin show the presence of a group of highly beneficial demethylated-curcuminoids not present when subjects took equivalent doses of regular curcumin. These individual demethylated curcuminoids demonstrate numerous biological properties such as antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, and hypocholesterolemic activities, as well as shielding progressive neuronal degeneration from increased oxidative attack. These minor curcuminoids also have a particular neuroprotective effect for Alzheimer’s patients. Accumulation of amyloid-beta (AB) is one of the hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and efficient clearance of AB by cells by phagocytosis of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) may be an important mechanism for controlling or preventing disease onset. [more about demethylated curcuminoids]
Three clinical studies support MicroActive® Curcumin as having:
- Improved bioavailability: 10x greater absorption than regular curcumin
- Quicker peak blood levels increase: 2 hours versus 4 hours for regular curcumin
- Delivery of important curcuminoids: demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin
- Sustained release over 12 hours
Additionally, MicroActice PQQ is produced with the same technology that is responsible for improved uniform absorption in other either water-soluble or fat-soluble actives.
Mechanism of Action
MicroActive® Technology. MicroActive Curcumin increases absorption by reducing particle size less than 10 microns thereby promoting more efficient transport through the digestive track and cell walls. In addition, the proprietary mix of polymers in MicroActive Curcumin slows the release rate of the curcuminoids allowing for absorption over a longer time period. Evidence supports the claim that this combination of greater absorption and sustained release creates a more uniform absorption from subject-to-subject, improving the probability that all consumers will benefit from the active.
Safety
Curcumin is derived from turmeric, a spice that has been used for both culinary and medicinal purposes for thousands of years. Human toxicological research has found curcumin to be safe.[ii] In very large doses, curcumin can cause stomach upset. However, MicroActive technology eliminates the need for excessive consumption by helping deliver smaller, more bioavailable doses to the body.
